In April 1986, the NWFA held its very first convention-just five months after the association formally organized in December 1985. That first convention attracted 170 attendees, and companies used only tabletop displays to show off their wares, like St. Paul-based 3M and Memphis, Tenn.-based Biwood Flooring, both pictured here. This year, the wood flooring industry is gearing up for the 2012 NWFA Wood Flooring Expo in Orlando, Fla., and even though a lot has changed since then-especially fashion trends-the Expo's aims remain the same: to network, learn and move the industry forward.
