Tina Boone just laughs whenever she hears the question, "How early were you on the job?" The top photo shows her at age 5 along with her brothers and industry notables Joe Jr., 9, and Daniel, 7, outside a gym flooring job in Tallahassee, Fla., posed in front of Joe Sr.'s '57 Chevy. All three of them are still part of the wood flooring industry today, and their dad remains in the mix, too: The bottom photo shows him re-upping his NWFA membership during this year's Expo in Orlando, Fla., while Joe Jr. looks on. Maybe the more apt question is, "How long will you stay on the job?"

The early 1980’s were an interesting time in the wood floor finish business. Oil-modified urethane (OMU) was king. While there were a few other types of finishes being used, almost every contractor used OMU. However, that was going to change very quickly.

In Memoriam: Lifelong Industry Veteran Warner Tweed Dies at 90
Lifelong wood floor industry veteran Warner Tweed, who had an expansive career starting as a NOFMA mill inspector in 1960, died on Feb. 6 at the age of 90.
'Warner had two passions besides his family: The wood flooring industry and the outdoors,' says longtime friend and fellow wood floor pro John Mayers. 'That man loved to hunt and fish.'
