Harris Wood was a juggernaut in the United States back in the days when smoking cigarettes was ubiquitous, especially in tobacco country in the 1970s. So what better way to advertise its Burlington, N.C.-based manufacturer Cherokee Flooring Corp. than with an image on the bottom of an ashtray? In fact, around this time Harris began changing its distribution channels to sell factory-finished through retail outlets direct to consumers, making the bottom of an ashtray even more valuable. The image shows an acorn crying as its oak tree is about to be processed in a mill next to a catchy rhyme:

Cheer up little acorn, don't you cry!

You'll be Harris Flooring,—bye & bye
