photo of finger pointing to cloud through a black frameCloud computing gives you access to almost any type of electronic file from anywhere you can access the Internet. When you wield a smartphone, you can have access to these files while picking up supplies at a distributor or taking a break at the job site. Wood flooring contractors will primarily be interested in two types of Web applications, or "apps," to harness cloud computing: photo apps and storage apps. With a photo app, you can snap a picture with your smartphone and have it automatically uploaded to a central location that you can later access on a business computer or at home; one example of this kind of app is Flickr. With storage apps like Dropbox, you can create a Word doc or Excel spreadsheet and save it on a remote server you can later access on your smartphone or anywhere with Internet access. After you get your files "in the cloud," you'll be wondering how you ever did business in the past.
