WFB asked its followers on Facebook and Instagram what their minimum dollar amount is to do a job. Here’s what they said:
Kenneth Kelly
$1,500. Any less and I won’t fire up the truck.
Van A Stahl
I guess it would be zero. I’ve been blessed with a great business and good health, so I like to bless others.
Brian Cooley
Depends on the scope of the job. Money is money, man. If I can make $500 and only work a couple of hours, it's $500 more than I had. 🤷♂️
Patrick J. Russell
Tacos.
Joshua Crossman
$2,700 for a sand and finish is our minimum. Even if it’s 50 square feet.
Mike Hanning
We don't have a minimum, I think it has helped out business. We tend to try to help all of our customers and realized early that being fair and honest is the best policy. I know we are all here to make a living, but sometimes you just do the small jobs and help someone out.
Brian Schultz
Genuinely $1,500 … some exceptions.
Matt Barnes
If it’s a small repair I can knock out myself, then it depends on the task. If it’s a refinish that requires a full crew, the cost is $ 1,500. I help people when I can, but I’m running a business after all.
Adrian Molitor
$2,000 and still no thanks. I figured out the rough fixed cost to set up our sanders.😑 Everything is super expensive.
Jason Porter
$800 if I'm home by noon.
$1,000 for a full day.
$2,500 minimum for sand and finish, plus materials.
Richard Borowski
$200.
Dan Hawkes
$2,250 is our minimum now. The cost of running a business has gone up, so have we. If I were doing it alone, I would be at $1,500.
Jason Davis
Depends on what else I have going on. I did a tiny job last week that took a few hours that paid $900 and I split that with my brother. But I was already working on another job not far away, so it didn’t take much to hop over and blow it out.
Chris Rodenkirchen
It depends on our workload. If we are super busy, then we will have a minimum because it seems like the small jobs are worse than the big ones. We don’t mind small jobs, especially if it leads to other jobs.
Ryan Metrick
There is no bottom dollar, but that is situational … Sometimes helping someone out is your foot in the door to getting more business. I’m definitely not going to work for nothing, though, and I’m not going to put my name on anything that isn’t done the right way.
Jack Horton
That $1,500 job you do for that old lady will get you other work for years to come.
Dave Walter
$4,000.
Curtis Timberlake
$750 minimum.
The Floor Store at Thornebrook
Is like asking how much a car is?
Thomas Lane
$1,000 a day.
Sam's Rustic Hardwood
I don't have one.
Jake Schlichte
$1,750 seems to be the magic number.
Devan Hale
$3,000 depending on what’s going on, but for a floor, yeah $3,000 is the minimum.
T.J. Haas
Bajillionty.
Dave Walter
Actually $950 minimum.
Craig Charleston
Doesn't matter here even if it was less than $1,000 people would still act like I was stealing their child's college fund and their 401k.
Alex Franklin
I have a minimum of at least 500 square feet. Even if it’s under 500 square feet I still have to charge them 500 square feet’s worth and because I have different price points and options—at the lowest $3,250.
Bradford Lawson
$1,000 for sanding.
Scott Achterberg
$1,900 if it's really close to home and natural.
Michael Brown
$250.
Arthur Arthur
$700.
Andrew Halabrin
$500.
Brad Dawes
$1,650.
Bill Powell III
$2,500.
Frank Carman
$800.
Bobby Wormwood
$1,500.
Bob Jewell
$2,500.
Bill Hoover
$1,500.
Greg Ozols
$1,800–$2,100.
Goodman Hardwoods
$1,750.
Ricky Coning
$1,750–$2,000.
Tim Klob
No set minimum … Small jobs have a tendency to snowball into bigger jobs. They also serve as a sort of honeymoon for new clients. If they're cool, I'll be glad to bid on their next project. If they're difficult, I'm moving on or doubling my rates to compensate.
Vitalii Pishko
How many layers in comments. Guys, if you have a slow time and don’t get any calls, most of you will be happy to make $300 a day. For me, I’m ready to help my clients at least for $100 if I need to fix any project, some scratches with almond butter and others. I’m happy when I make $500 a day and am always busy.
Chris J. Compton
$3,750 for less than 500 square feet.
Tobe Del
I'll do repairs for $300–$400, but if the BM has to come out, it's $1,200. I do LVP repairs and board replacements for $100 an hour for the company I sub for, but I have never taken an hour because all my stuff is cordless.
Joe J Hudson
$3,500.
Cody Rhodes
$2,500.
Spencer Hulbert
For new clients, $3,000. For existing clients, no minimum.
Finn Wood Flooring
$0.
Timothy MacDonough
Some days I feel like I work for free. 🤣
Thomas Lane
$1,000 a day.
Corey Genovese
$5,000 unless you’re a repeat or yearly customer.
Dan Moskal
$150 an hour for repairs or $1,000 a day.
