Trick of the Trade: Straining the Solids

When containers of finish have been previously opened, Steve Bella at Stebex Hardwood Floors in North Vancouver, B.C., strains the finish with women’s pantyhose to reduce the amount of solid pieces in the finish. A plastic tie holds the nylons in place while he pours the finish. “Laugh if you will, but I don’t have bumps on the floors I seal,” he says. “Now, my wife asks if I have any spare pantyhose.”
