Trick of the Trade: No More Coffee Breaks

trick for using a fan to help dry wood floor finish

When you're coating a floor, you want the air in the room to be as still as possible, but after a couple hours, when the finish has skinned over, you need air movement to help cure the finish. Curt Sandberg and his crews used to go get coffee, then wait around until the finish skinned over enough to turn fans on. Now instead of wasting their time they use inexpensive timers like the ones used to turn on lamps when you're on vacation—no more waiting around for finish to dry.

Thanks to Curt Sandberg of Pottstown, Pa.-based Sandberg's Custom Hardwood Floors for his tip. Do you have a Trick of the Trade to share? Email it to WFB.
