For the past six months, Nampa, Idaho-based DeGrange Hardwood Floors Owner Ryan DeGrange has seen an uptick in 4- to 5-inch solid hickory floor installations, with a majority of customers choosing a natural look with a low sheen. "There has been a drastic decline in staining a floor or changing color," DeGrange says. He credits the stain-free trend to the color variation most grades of hickory offer on their own, with a natural contrast of light and dark colors. "We've been in many situations where we put color samples down [on hickory] and the homeowner opts for natural instead," he says.
