Starting around 2017, 4- to 5-inch-wide floors became "not quite wide enough" to meet the tastes of new homeowners by the Jersey Shore, says Adam Walter Bissey of Belmar, N.J.-based Floors by the Shore. Today, 7- to 8-inch-wide flooring has become the standard for new builds in the coastal area, where stains run the gamut from dark to light. "It came with the open concept plan," Bissey says of the wide trend. "As soon as the rooms got bigger, the floors got bigger."
