The owners of the exclusive HEIMAT gym in West Hollywood were looking to introduce the idea of luxury into the gymnasium, so when it came to the floors, they turned to the legendary Gardena, Calif.-based wood flooring company Parquet by Dian. “They wanted us to do literally just beautiful environments throughout the space,” Parquet by Dian Owner Dima Efros says of the approximately 30,000-foot project. Efros’ high-end company has handled gym floors around the world, notably for Gold’s Gym, but this custom job’s floors felt more like the huge hotel jobs Parquet by Dian is also known for, with different European oak patterns in almost every room. “They wanted to make sure that if there was a herringbone or chevron going into a room, it was going to fit exactly,” Efros says. “We like working with clients that look at the details.” Efros used different sealers to bring out different colors in the oak floors, all prefabricated by Parquet by Dian, to further set the rooms apart. The project took two years from inception to completion and was an exercise in bringing craftsmanship to unexpected places—like places to exercise. “There are lots of areas for people to work out on the ground, close to the floors, and we wanted it to be something where they are truly enjoying the space,” Efros says. “Gyms don’t have to be smelly and stinky and have a bunch of rubber mats.”
