
Based in California’s Bay Area, Mark Whatley, operations manager at Amber Flooring in Emeryville, Calif., sees a marked shift away from the usual plank flooring that’s been so pervasive for so long. “The West Coast is having a huge influx of patterned floors—everything from custom basketweave patterns to a high demand for chevron and herringbone floors,” he says. “Many of them have borders with an old-school twist of brass inlays.”
