Ask and Ye Shall Receive: Videos of a Floor Grooving Jig

Joseph Statti grooves flooring as his father did before him, and his grandfather before him, at his company Joe's Floors Co. Inc. in Los Angeles.

After he explained that legacy and the process in a comment on a poor resand of a grooved floor we posted, an interested commenter asked if he would share a video of the process. Statti was more than happy to oblige.

WFB has written before about the specialty jig Statti uses to cut grooves into wood flooring to give the illusion a narrow strip floor is actually a wide plank floor.

Statti said these floors—often called peg and groove—were his family’s niche in the Los Angeles market: “It blows my mind to think there was enough flooring that needed to be grooved to support a family of six in the Los Angeles area.”
