Lumber Liquidators is recovering from a management software implementation that went awry, according to The Motley Fool. In mid-2010, in an effort to enhance distribution, the company tried replacing the system it uses to track inventory and order fulfillment, which usually involved using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. But instead the software just slowed down business, and Lumber Liquidators' open orders ballooned. By the end of the year the company acknowledged the problem and worked to restore fourth quarter 2010 open orders to historic levels. To satisfy customers, the big-box retailer is making price concessions and even offering free delivery to customers.
