The Coalition for American Hardwood Parity (CAHP) has petitioned the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) to remove UA Wood Floors from coverage of its ongoing investigation into unfair trading of engineered wood flooring from China. UA Wood Floors manufactures its engineered wood flooring in Taiwan, according to a CAHP release.
UA Floors, the company's U.S. arm, is headquartered in Lancaster, Pa. UA Floors recently petitioned DOC to certify its parent company is organized under the laws of Taiwan, that its sole manufacturing operation is located in Taiwan, and that it does not produce any engineered wood flooring in China.
According to Jeff Levin, counsel for CAHP, goods from Taiwan are given "normal" tariff rates-the same tariff rates assigned to the majority of products exported to the U.S. Recently, DOC imposed preliminary countervailing duties of up to 27.01 percent on engineered wood flooring from China.
