Armstrong World Industries is planning to cut jobs in its business-support services departments at its corporate campus in Lancaster, Pa., according to LancasterOnline.com. The company is currently finalizing its overhead-reduction plan, which should be ready by June; the layoffs will be rolled out during the following six to nine months.
The company says it is too early to tell how many jobs will be cut, and that it does plan to outsource some of the work. Spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson told the newspaper Armstrong is laying off employees because its cost structure is not as competitive as it needs to be.
In January Armstrong closed its hardwood flooring distribution center in Helenwood, Tenn., and in February it announced it would close an engineered flooring plant in Statesville, N.C., on April 29. Also, the company laid off 44 workers in its facilities management department earlier this year.
