The Alliance for Free Choice & Jobs in Flooring (AFCJF), a group that opposes implementing trade tariffs on engineered wood flooring from China, will hold a conference call on Wednesday during which it will discuss the effects of the ongoing trade investigation.
On Friday the group circulated letters throughout the wood flooring industry, urging people to take an active role in the proceedings instead of "handing over control of your destiny to someone else." The group related its conflict with domestic wood flooring producers that make up the Coalition for American Hardwood Parity (CAHP) to the biblical fight between David and Goliath. A section of the letter reads, "Unlike the [CAHP], we believe the market should dictate the styles and choices for the consumer rather than protectionist government actions manipulated by the Goliath U.S. flooring manufacturers." During the conference call Wednesday, importers from the wooden furniture industry will discuss how international trade sanctions have affected their industry. The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) reached a final decision on antidumping duty rates for China-manufactured wooden furniture in 2004. In May the Washington Post published an article detailing how the wooden furniture industry has fared since the 2004 decision.
