U.S. wood flooring export values-dollar-amount sales of both engineered and solid products-fell 48 percent to $950,143 from $1.8 million in September 2010, according to Zepol Corporation. Month-to-month, exports fell 41 percent from $1.6 million in August.
Exports to Sweden and Canada fell the most in September. Exports to Sweden fell 62 percent to $268,453 from $722,158 in August, while exports to Canada fell 39 percent to $425,261 from $696,897.
Meanwhile, after reaching a 2011 high of $13.3 million in August, U.S. wood flooring import values fell in September to $11.0 million, according to Zepol Corporation. That dip represents a 17 percent decrease from August import values, and a 12 decrease from imports of $12.5 million notched in September 2010.
Products from China accounted for about 66 percent of September wood flooring imports, valued at $7.3 million. In second place were imports from Canada, which totaled $1.7 million in September. Together, products from China and Canada amount to 82 percent of all U.S. wood flooring imports. Imports from both countries fell in September; imports from China fell 8.6 percent from $8.0 million, while imports from Canada fell 14.5 percent from $2.0 million.
