During its aligned retailer convention earlier this month, Mohawk Industries (Calhoun, Ga.) announced that it is donating flooring for all 16 homes Operation Finally Home will build in 2012, two of which are already underway.
The Operation Finally Home program, started by the nonprofit Bay Area Builders Association (BABA) Support Our Troops, provides custom mortgage-free homes to wounded and disabled veterans and the widows of the fallen. According to the BABA website, the nonprofit was started for the troops "in an effort to get their lives back on track and become productive members of their communities."
The announcement of Mohawk's involvement was made during its aligned retailer convention earlier this month by J.R. Martinez, a war hero and recently crowned "Dancing with the Stars" champion. Martinez, who suffered burns to 40 percent of his body after hitting a land mine while driving a Humvee in Iraq, is the official spokesperson for Operation Finally Home.
"The physical and emotional struggles you experience after an attack in combat seem insurmountable at first, and you question if you'll ever be able to hope for anything again," said Martinez. "People helping other people in need- that's what restores hope and makes this country great. My life would not be what it is today if it weren't for programs like Operation Finally Home that helped me when I needed it most."
