Thirty-one officials inside Philippines' Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) were recently relieved from their posts for failing to stop illegal logging operations, according to PhilStar.com.
Even though the country's president Benigno Aquino III signed an executive order in February 2011 banning all logging, DENR officials continue to receive reports of the practice. The order also created an anti-illegal logging task force with representatives from Philippines' interior, defense and police departments.
The latest dismissals included five DENR regional directors, as well as six officers in the country's Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, among others.
