The library of must-see videos for wood flooring fans is rather sparse. In fact, that library is probably nonexistent.
For the first induction, then, take a gander at "Single Board Repair" (above) by sport court company Praters Inc. (Chattanooga, Tenn.). Written, shot and edited by Praters' Creative Director Mark Frainie, "Single Board Repair" is one of the latest additions at TheEdgeGrain.com, a website that the company launched in March.
Ultimately, Frainie hopes to establish a community website for the sport court world. "The athletic flooring community is so spread out, and there's not a lot of conversation happening between the certain groups of companies," Frainie said of the impetus to launch the site.
To make the site interesting, Frainie eschewed the typical self-serving content on most corporate blogs and chose to give each of his videos an idiosyncratic edge. This is why at TheEdgeGrain.com, you'll find: a how-to video, replete with kung-fu sound effects, for making a game-line roller; a video showing robot-humans staining a gym floor; and "Single Board Repair," which is, of course, done in the vein of "Mission: Impossible."
Here's the action-packed game-line roller how-to. And here's the video showing how robot humans stain a gym floor. The videos will make you laugh, learn and possibly even dance. For original music duties, Frainie turned to his friend and Austin, Texas-based outlaw country musician Peewee Moore. On "Single Board Repair," Moore turned in a stripped-down electric version of Johnny Rivers' "Secret Agent Man," fitting the mood and look of the video perfectly. "We always try to think outside the box," Frainie says of the videos.
Frainie and his company's President John Prater also regularly blog at the site. Topics range from the sport court community to the general building industry. Frainie also invites people from throughout the wood flooring industry to contribute blogs, as well as videos.
