Vote on 'RELIEF' Lacey Amendment Could Happen Soon

The Hardwood Federation, a wood products lobbying group of which the NWFA is a part, is urging constituents to contact legislators to oppose H.R. 3210: the Retailers and Entertainers Lacey Implementation and Enforcement Fairness Act, or RELIEF Act. If the legislation passes a key U.S. House committee, a vote on the bill could happen next week.

"We are hearing some very positive news prior to a Rules Committee hearing-where amendments could be made before the bill hits the House floor-that H.R. 3210 is 'losing steam' and may be pulled completely. It is of utmost importance that we hit as many offices as possible," the group said in an email to members.

The Capitol Switchboard telephone number is (202) 224-3121.

In related news, active NWFA members Mike and Donna Millard of McMinnville Manufacturing Co. (McMinnville, Tenn.) were recently featured in a local TV news report about how passage of the RELIEF Act could hurt U.S. wood product manufacturing jobs. The report can be viewed below.
