When singer/songwriter Jewel wanted to remodel the master bedroom she shares with rodeo-champ husband Ty Murray, she personally chose Amish Hand-Scraped Smoked Oak Graphite Oil flooring from HomerWood Hardwood Flooring Company's (Titusville, Pa.) Character Flooring collection, the company said in a release. The flooring gave the couple's home in Stephenville, Texas, a "lived-in" and rustic look.
Helping with design was Kim Lewis from ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Throughout the house, Lewis focused on a non-frilly décor approach using elements inspired by the 2,400 acre ranch and farm animals, including a wall made from salvaged-barn-wood, rough-hewn Tibetan carved wooden stands and a kitchen island designed to look like a giant packing crate.
"The rough, hand-scraped quality of the HomerWood floors fit the character of the home, and we loved the fact that the floors are made in the U.S.A.," Lewis said. "The hardwood floors reveal all of the tree's natural imperfections, including original markings, distinctive graining and inherent characteristics."
