Entrepreneur Kevin Triemstra has launched the Minneapolis Biomass Exchange, a website that connects buyers and sellers of biomass material, including sawdust, wood chips, tree trimmings and more.
The exchange is believed to be the first of its kind, according to Finance & Commerce. The exchange offers a full menu of services including settlement, financing, delivery and quality control as well as a wide variety of feedstocks.
Listings on the exchange are free. If a seller decides to use the exchange's bidding system, the exchange takes a transaction fee for handling settlement. The buyer pays up front, and the exchange gives payment to the seller minus its transaction fee. Markets for the biomass include livestock bedding and renewable energy, among others.
