Software Puts Dollar Value on Living Trees

The U.S. Forest Service's i-Tree software can put a dollar amount on the benefits of urban trees by analyzing the amount the city saves due to storm-water runoff reductions, increased property values, heating and cooling energy savings, air quality improvement and CO2 reduction.

Available for free from www.itreetools.org, i-Tree can be used to analyze the effect of one tree, street trees or an entire urban forest, so communities can make more effective, quantitative decisions about where to plant and whether to remove trees.
