Ohio has joined the list of states looking to ban the use of the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED building standard for state building projects, according to Eco Building Pulse. Republican state senators Joe Uecker and Tim Schaffer proposed SCR 25, which, unlike most other legislative efforts to ban used of LEED certification, specifically refers to LEED v4 by name.
The senators argue that LEED should not be used as the rating system of record because it does not follow American National Standards Institute (ANSI) consensus procedures. Many of the states that have introduced anti-LEED legislation have expressed concern over the standard's preference for FSC-certified wood over locally harvested and milled wood.
LEED v4 was officially unveiled last week at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Philadelphia.
