PBS personality Tommy MacDonald teaches kids the "Truth About Trees" at Surfaces 2014 last week.
Schoolchildren from the Las Vegas area were on the main stage at Surfaces on Jan. 29 to experience the "Truth About Trees" with TV personality Tommy MacDonald. MacDonald, who hosts the PBS program "Rough Cut - Woodworking with Tommy Mac," led the children through the educational program developed by the Hardwood Forest Foundation to educate youth about the sustainability of the wood resource and how much our society depends on wood products in everyday life.
National Wood Flooring Association CEO Michael Martin saw the Truth About Trees program in action at the National Hardwood & Lumber Association convention last October and decided to partner with NHLA, the Hardwood Forest Foundation parent organization, to bring the program to Surfaces.
The Truth About Trees is an educational kit that is distributed free of charge to educators and forest product industry members worldwide to educate children in third through fifth grades about wood product sustainability. More information about the program, which is also available free as a DVD and online, is available here.
The program will also be presented on the show floor at the NWFA Wood Flooring Expo in Nashville, Tenn., in April.
All Things Wood Floor, created by Wood Floor Business magazine, talks to interesting wood flooring pros to share knowledge, stories and tips on everything to do with wood flooring, from installation, sanding and finishing to business management.
