Wood floor contractors are taught to guard against many things, like moisture and uneven subfloors, but a burglar isn't one of them.
A Gastonia, N.C., woman told the local newspaper that a burglar or burglars entered her house through the hardwood floor:
Then she noticed a gaping hole in the corner of a bedroom. The hardwood floors had been ripped up, exposing the crawl space underneath the house. "Tore out the duct to my heating and air conditioning and burst through the wood flooring," she said.
Inside, the thief managed to sneak past indoor security measures—motion detectors, door locks—set up by the homeowner, and eventually left with $6,500 of loot.
