
CrossFit, an aggressive weight lifting program for masochists, has been criticized for many things. Added to the list this week: Ruining one of the most creatively designed collegiate hardwood basketball courts in the country.
The beach-themed court at Florida International University has large dents in the floor on both sides of midcourt and beyond the west sideline after a weekend CrossFit competition, according to the Miami Herald, whose reporter didn't hold back when describing the damage:
"From the second level, the floor resembles a face that suffered under a razor wielded by a neophyte."
A new floor is necessary, but the banged up floor won't be able to be replaced until after the basketball season or even after the arena hosts the school's graduation ceremonies.
A portable floor will cover the regular floor for now.
