Armstrong Floor Products joined forces with a distributor and retailer to install flooring in a house donated to Army SSG Matthew DeWitt courtesy of Homes for Our Troops.
Armstrong, as the exclusive flooring supplier to HFOT, provided the engineered hardwood floors for the home. Belknap White donated 50 percent of the cost of the flooring in the Hopkinton, N.H., home, and Nashua, N.H.-based Nashua Wallpaper and Paint Carpet One donated the installation.
The house was built for DeWitt, who was in the blast radius of a rocket propelled grenade on July 22, 2003, while on tour in Khalidiyah, Iraq. The injuries he sustained resulted in the amputation of both arms below the elbow, damage to his eardrums and extensive skin grafts to his face, legs and arms.
DeWitt's new home comes from HFOT mortgage-free, through the support of individuals, foundations and corporate contributors.
“Having a house that is built around my needs so I can have an easier time doing day-to-day things will help ease some of the stress and frustration that comes from having a severe disability for me and my family, ” said DeWitt in a statement.
DeWitt is currently a father of two, a cyclist, a hunter and avid gardener. He is training to make the U.S. Paralympics cycling team.
