Oct. 19–25 is National Forest Products Week.
Forest products support more than 1 million jobs and contribute $100 billion to the U.S. gross domestic product, according to a statement from the American Wood Council.
Green building materials, like wood, are expanding in use. The marketplace for green materials is expected to crest $529 billion by 2020 and support for the use of wood in construction is growing.
“National Forest Products Week is a time for us to celebrate and discuss the economic role of wood products in our country,” said AWC President and CEO Robert Glowinski in a statement, “as well as the function of sustainable forestry in mitigating the atmospheric carbon contributing to buildup of greenhouse gases.”
In recognition of National Forest Products Week, the AWC is encouraging readers to take to social media using the #CelebrateFP hashtag and to send a letter to media publications to increase awareness. A letter has already been drafted and can be downloaded at AWC.org.
