A house was damaged and three cats were killed after a pile of stain-covered rags caught fire, according to WNDU.com.
A homeowner in Elkhart, Ind., had been staining and using polyurethane on her home's hardwood floors on Monday. The used rags sat in a pile on her bedroom as she left the home to let the floors dry.
When she returned, she opened the door to heavy smoke and called 911.
The rags had spontaneously combusted and burned a hole through the floor. The rest of the house suffered moderate smoke and water damage.
Three cats inside the house at the time of the fire died from smoke inhalation.
