Shaw to Lay Off 40 From Two North Carolina Plants

Shaw Flooring (Dalton, Ga.) will remove 20 workers each from its wood flooring plants in Bryson City and Franklin, N.C.

The layoffs come after Shaw reassessed its production requirements for the new year, said Al Scruggs, Shaw’s human resource director.

The facilities at Franklin and Bryson City employ 150 and 80 workers, respectively, he said.

The layoffs will be based on seniority and take place during the next three to four weeks. Shaw will give each employee a four-week severance package, as well as facilitate employment training in cooperation with the state government for those employees.

Scruggs said he expects that the people who lose their jobs will be able to get them back in the future. “We do everything we can to help those folks out, and we hope they come back later,” he said.
