Duke University is reportedly in talks to purchase the 2015 Final Four national championship court from Connor Sports Flooring, according to Bloomberg, after defeating Wisconsin in the championship game on the court on April 6.
While the total cost is still being negotiated, it is assumed Connor Sports Flooring will sell the court to Duke for more money than in the past (about $100,000) because the court is larger than normal at 140 by 70 feet and was made using FSC-certified wood from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Bloomberg reported.
“It’s a huge floor, there’s a lot of custom panels on the outside,” Andrew Campbell, Connor portable project manager, told Bloomberg. “It had a unique building experience, which also means some additional costs.”
Connor Sports Flooring started offering to sell the Final Four court to the winner in 2006. A number of past courts have been cut into pieces and sold to fans. Louisville purchased the 2013 championship floor, hung the center-court logo in the KFC Yum! Center and sold the rest to the Cardinals faithful, which raised $250,000 for pediatric cancer research.
