The United States Green Building Council released its second annual Top 10 Countries for LEED list, which recognizes countries other than the U.S. that have made strides in sustainable building design using the LEED system, and Canada and China placed first and second, respectively.
Canada has more than 4,800 LEED-certified and registered projects. China has a little more than 2,000 projects. Combined, the two countries that lead the Top 10 Countries for LEED list have more than 181.6 million gross square meters of LEED-certified and registered space.
India came in third place, with 1,883 projects that total more than 73 million gross square meters of LEED-certified and registered space.
The U.S., in comparison, has nearly 54,000 projects and more than 724 million gross square meters of LEED-certified and registered space.
The rest of the list includes, in descending order, Brazil, Korea, Germany, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Sweden.
