European hardwood flooring exports to the U.S. increased 8.8 percent in the first quarter of 2015. EU exports also increased 27.2 percent to Turkey and increased 2.0 percent to China, according to Fordaq.
However, total European Union wood flooring exports, which have been increasing year-over-year since 2009, slowed in the first quarter.
Total exports for the first quarter were 4.174 million square meters (44.9 million square feet), 4.7 percent lower than the same period in 2014.
The first-quarter decline was due to a 12.4 percent and 11.4 percent decrease in exports to both Switzerland and Norway, respectively, two countries outside of the EU that make up Europe’s largest markets.
