A fire sparked by the spontaneous combustion of hardwood floor refinishing chemicals damaged the inside of a vacant residence in Allentown, Pa., on Sept. 20, according to The Morning Call.
Allentown Fire Capt. John Christopher said an investigation led him to believe the fire started in a “pile of rags dumped in the kitchen” that were soaked with chemicals used recently to refinish the floor, according to the paper. Exactly what chemicals those were has not been released.
The fire began in the afternoon. When the firefighters arrived on scene, smoke was seen billowing out of the home and flames could be seen coming out of the back of the building, The Morning Call reported.
The fire took 15 minutes to put out. No one was injured.
