Kennebec Lumber Co. (Solon, Maine) purchased and installed six dry kilns in May, according to Timberline Magazine.
The kilns were purchased specifically for drying red oak. The kilns are able to dry red oak in 28–32 days, a time savings of two to four days for Kennebec, which previously dried its red oak off-site. Kennebec uses red oak to manufacture hardwood flooring.
“The color out of these kilns is extremely good,” Mark Gilbert, vice president of operations, told Timberline. “The quality is very good.”
