Myanmar to Resume Logging After Year-Long Ban

After a year-long ban on logging in the country, Myanmar is planning to resume harvesting this year.

Wai Kyaing, the deputy general manager of the Myanmar Timber Enterprise, said the MTE will harvest 17,000 tons of trees this year. The harvesting will be subcontracted, and the subcontractors will be paid rather than retain some of the felled logs, as was the previous arrangement.
