Lägler Buys U.S. Flooring Manufacturer Muscanell Millworks

Lägler Holding (Guglingen, Germany) bought Muscanell Millworks, a wood flooring manufacturer based in Cortez, Colo., according to local paper The Journal.

The sale was described by Muscanell founder Doug Muscanell as a way to ensure the business remains after he and his business partner and wife Karen Harbaugh retire. Harbaugh and Muscanell will continue to work at the mill for some time to help with the transition of ownership.

“We want to see the business go on here,” Harbaugh told The Journal. “It’s successful. It’s established. We have found the labor pool that we need here. ... We needed a plan for how the business is going to go on after Doug and I are ready to retire.”

Lägler has no plans to make changes to the current staff of 25 or the way the mill is run, Marc Schulz, vice president of North American sales for Lägler, told The Journal.

“For us, it just makes sense—I mean, we produce the machines to sand the flooring, and they produce the best wood flooring,” Schulz said. “For us it was a good fit.”

Updated Oct. 18 to clarify Lägler Holding purchased Muscanell Millworks.
