The National Association of Home Builders called on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to work more closely with small businesses in improving safety conditions.
NAHB Construction Safety and Health Committee Chair J. Gary Hill spoke on behalf of the organization at a House subcommittee hearing Feb. 27, criticizing OSHA for imposing what he called a “regulatory tsunami” on the construction industry, which he said has had the hardest impact on small businesses within the industry.
At the same time, Hill noted in his testimony the importance of workplace safety. He advocated that OSHA focus more effort on providing employers with compliance assistance and training, develop new ways to partner with small businesses to achieve compliance with regulations and modernize information methods by utilizing video-based education segments and checklists that can be viewed on smartphones, tablets and computers.
