Russia has barred a U.S. environmental group from operating in the country, labeling the group, which lobbies against illegal logging, as an āundesirable organizationā and a threat to state security, according to a report by Reuters.
Pacific Environment, which is based in San Francisco, campaigns to protect the environment in Siberia and Russiaās far east region from illegal logging, as well as mining and fossil fuel extraction.
In 2015, President Vladimir Putin signed legislation prohibiting āundesirableā organizations from operating within Russiaās borders.
