Russia Bans U.S. Anti-Illegal Logging Group From Operating in Country

Russia has barred a U.S. environmental group from operating in the country, labeling the group, which lobbies against illegal logging, as an ā€œundesirable organizationā€ and a threat to state security, according to a report by Reuters.

Pacific Environment, which is based in San Francisco, campaigns to protect the environment in Siberia and Russiaā€™s far east region from illegal logging, as well as mining and fossil fuel extraction.

In 2015, President Vladimir Putin signed legislation prohibiting ā€œundesirableā€ organizations from operating within Russiaā€™s borders.
