Sam and Rachel Cobb, owners of Real Wood Floors (West Plains, Mo.), were recognized as “Angels in Adoption” by U.S. Rep. Jason Smith for their extensive work supporting charities in Asia that care for vulnerable children and abandoned orphans.
The Cobbs were recognized with the award during a ceremony held in Washington D.C. by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute Sept. 26.
“Rachel and Samuel are an inspiration to all of us who value life,” Smith said in a statement. “They have found their purpose in helping and supporting vulnerable children all over the world, and it was my privilege to nominate them for the Angels in Adoption Award.”
Working to find homes for orphaned children is Real Wood Floors’ stated mission, according to Sam Cobb.
“We were so happy to receive the honor on behalf of our entire team at RWF, who work diligently every day to pursue finding a home for every orphan,” Cobb told WFB in an email.
Since making a life-changing visit in 2007 to a Chinese orphanage named Shepherd’s Field Children’s Village, the Cobbs have donated more than $50,000 to the organization, provided it with 25,500 square feet of flooring, and have adopted children there as well. They have also helped fund adoptions from the orphanage for employees.
Cobb said his wood flooring company’s strategic initiative is to finance or help construct 10 orphan care facilities, provide 100 adoption grants to families willing to adopt special needs children, and to educate or vocationally train 1,000 orphans that will never be adopted into a forever family.
“RWF is also currently leading a discussion with a large group of business owners, NGOs and faith-based orphan care providers to try and quantify what a complete solution to the orphan care crisis in one country would look like,” Cobb added.
