A woman’s call to police that her grandson had stolen her credit card led to the discovery of $30,000 worth of hardwood flooring equipment, including a trailer, that had been reported stolen the day before, KTVZ reports.
When police in Redmond, Ore., arrived at the home of the woman’s grandson, Troy Schaffner, on June 29, they noticed a 17-foot trailer that had been reported stolen by Terrebonne, Ore.-based The Flooring Guys parked outside the home. Inside the home they found the hardwood flooring equipment that had been in the trailer at the time it was stolen. Schaffner and two others in the home were arrested, and the equipment was returned to The Flooring Guys.
The trailer had been damaged and the company’s logo was sanded off, but The Flooring Guys Owner Matthew Wallace told KTVZ he was just happy to have it back. He also praised the Redmond police for finding it before the thieves had a chance to scratch off the vehicle ID number—which would have made it harder to identify as theirs.
“I’m sure if they didn’t find it yesterday, it would’ve been gone for good,” Wallace said.
