As the Forest Stewardship Council continues its suspension of all FSC certifications for Russian timber products, FSC Russia announced it will offer its own temporary certification system, Lesprom reported.
The FSC banned certification on all Russian timber products April 8 in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The FSC Russia Coordinating Council announced it will break off from the FSC until the ban is lifted and will offer “Forest Etalon,” a voluntary forest certification it states is designed to complement FSC certifications.
Russia is the largest exporter of lumber in the world. The country invaded Ukraine Feb. 24, sparking numerous sanctions that have led to large disruptions in the global supply chain.
