A lieutenant in the New York City Police Department was suspended after being accused of stealing $1,300-worth of wood flooring from a Long Island Floor & Decor, the New York Daily News reported. The lieutenant’s attorney called the alleged theft a misunderstanding.
Lt. Lina Ruiz ordered 65 boxes of wood flooring from the store but only received 55 boxes, her attorney told the Daily News. Ruiz, a 17-year veteran of the force, went to a Floor & Decor in Commack on April 13 and retrieved 10 boxes of wood flooring.
When employees at the store noticed the boxes were missing, they called the police, who tracked down Ruiz. “It’s clearly a misunderstanding,” her attorney, Peter Brill, told the Daily News.
Ruiz was charged with misdemeanor grand larceny and given a desk appearance ticket, according to the report.
