Using wood for the flooring in a restroom is not unheard of—using wood to make the actual toilet is another matter. Woodio, a Finnish interior and design company, is looking to change that with the introduction of “Block,” a toilet created from solid wood composite, according to a report from Dezeen.
The wall-mounted toilet is approximately 80% wood by volume using wood from the Finnish forest industry. Wood chips are mixed with fossil-based polyester and bioplastic resins that make the toilet “practically unbreakable,” according to the company. Using the same method, Woodio also makes bathtubs and wall panels that have “99% reduced CO2 footprint when compared to ceramic products,” according to Woodio Founder and CEO Petro Lahtinen.
The innovative commode opens up opportunities for wood floors, too.
“A wall-hung toilet seat also creates space in the bathroom when the floor space is left free,” the company states.
