Wood floor pros have heard all kinds of excuses for why a floor was damaged—but a rock from outer space might be a new one.
The Hopewell Township New Jersey Police Department reported that “a metallic object believed to be a meteorite” struck a ranch-style home May 8, smashing through the roof and ceiling of the house before hitting the hardwood floor and “coming to a rest.” People were home at the time of the incident, but there were no injuries.
The object measures 4 by 6 inches and is oblong-shaped. It may have originated from a meteor shower called the Eta Aquariids, according to the HTPD. The department said it is in touch with other agencies to positively identify the object.
From the photos shared by the HTPD, it appears the object damaged at least one board of the flooring.
