FTC Reaches $7.2 Million Settlement with HomeAdvisor for ‘Deceptive’ Tactics

The Federal Trade Commission announced it reached a $7.2 million settlement agreement with HomeAdvisor for what it referred to as the lead-generation company’s “deceptive and misleading tactics” in selling project leads to service providers.

The FTC’s final order followed a proposal and public comment period.

In addition to the $7.2 million fine, the FTC’s order prohibits HomeAdvisor from making any false or misleading claims concerning its leads or lead quality.

The FTC filed an administrative complaint against HomeAdvisor in 2022, arguing that since at least mid-2014, HomeAdvisor made “false, misleading or unsubstantiated claims about the quality and source of the leads the company sells to service providers who are in search of potential customers.”

HomeAdvisor is affiliated with Angi, formerly called “Angie’s List.”
