Employee Accused of Stealing Hundreds of Thousands From Wood Flooring Company

A former longtime employee at BJ’s Timber Flooring in Perth, Australia, is facing more than 290 counts of theft, accused of stealing nearly $1 million from the family-owned wood flooring business over the past five years, The West Australian reported.

Michelle Gibson began working at the company in 1997 but allegedly skimmed funds from the business over the past five years, working as a financial controller. She had an annual salary of $86,000, and during a recent bail hearing, the court was told Gibson had been “living well beyond her means” over the past five years, spending approximately $300,000 a year.

“There's a significant amount of money involved,” a police prosecutor said at the court hearing, according to the West Australian.
