The construction industry added 212,000 jobs from August 2022 to August 2023—a 2.7% increase to a total of 7,993,000 jobs, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America.
A total of 22,000 jobs in the construction field were added from July to August 2023.
“There is no letup in demand for construction workers or private-sector projects,” Ken Simonson, AGC’s chief economist, said in a statement. “The industry is raising pay faster than other sectors amid persistently low unemployment (3.9%).”
Average hourly earnings for construction workers surged 5.7% year-over-year to $34.40 per hour in August.
